2017 FESTIVAL POSTER

The new Accordion Noir festival artwork is created by Elin Jonsson of Vildeld Productions. Elin’s aesthetic mix of pop surrealism and art nouveau provides a visually lush and moody fit for Accordion Noir and this is the second year in a row that Elin has created the festival look. She comes highly qualified for the job having years of experience as the artist and campaign director of Peace & Love, the largest bohemian music festival in Sweden, and as artist and co-founder of the popular online game Afterland by Imaginary Games. Vildeld Productions, Elin’s new company here in Vancouver, is a production house creating games, books, films, illustrations and artwork. It was recently awarded with entry into Wavefront’s accelerator business program. https://www.vildeld.com/

JINGLE BELLOWS FUNDRAISER WRAP

octophone-resize-black-bgThe Jingle Bellows fundraiser is officially over and we earned just over 75% of our intended goal. Fortunately we are accordionists and good at squeezing things to get the best results out of any situation, and so our charitable status application is now well underway. We are excited about what it will mean to the future of the society and are happy to be turning our thoughts toward plans for the 2017 festival.

Huge thanks to all who donated and big love to the artists who contributed their music to the Accordion Noir Ringtone Album (below)

If you still interested in getting a Ringtone Album or find yourself randomly able to help out by donating to the Society and Festival, we could still use a little bit more love in our bellows and will gratefully accept donations at any time of the year. Here are details on ways to donate.

  • Interac e-transfer to info@accordionnoirfest.com
  • our yellow Paypal donation button located at the top right sidebar

NOIR POTION #9 POSTER ART

Elin Noir Poster Draft April 6, 2016-small for onlineThe artwork for  this year's poster and promotional campaign, Noir Potion #9, has been created through the generous help of Swedish fine artist Elin Jonsson. Elin is the co-founder of the local company Imaginary Games and co-creator of the CMF award winning card game Afterland. Before moving to Canada in 2009 she worked for many years as the art director for the largest bohemian music festival in Sweden, Peace & Love. Her personal love for vintage circus and all things french became the identity of the festival and her Art was seen across Sweden in Magazines and Television. Elin Jonsson's twisted tale of darkness and beauty is inspired by Pop Surrealism and Art Nouveau, and her works draws inspiration from Victorian gothic, dark fairy tales, the circus, and of course, accordions. We couldn't have found a better match and are thrilled have the support of such a skilled and talented artist. Elin is donating her time and talent to the Festival this year because she believes that Vancouver needs more events like the Accordion Noir Festival.  Please take some time to check out Afterland and some of her other online works.

Also take a peek at our new poster archive page where you can check out the posters from our festivals over the course of the past nine years.

Pinata Protest 2San Antonio based Piñata Protest is hailed by NPR ALT Latino as “brilliant” and “mind blowing”, and by the LA Times as “festively energetic”. This bilingual band brings shredding lead accordion to a mix of old school punk rock and traditional Latin border music which they have christened mojano punk.
